Rachel

Cancerversary: December

Age at diagnosis: 31

Diagnosis: Adenocarcinoma

Stage of cancer: IB2

How my story begins: I had abnormal periods since high school. I had lower back pain the first time I started my period in middle school. I can't give blood it was hard for my body to make up blood. I had the symptoms of cervical cancer in February 2017. My doctor did a lot of testing to get to the cervical cancer diagnosis.

Life before my diagnosis: I am a single mom raising my son. I was working and going to school to get my BA degree. It was a hard life being diagnosed with cervical cancer. It was not going to end because I had a tumor.

How I felt after diagnosis: I was scared. I was fearful of having surgery, and fearful of my cancer.

Telling my family and friends: Yes I told family and friends.

My treatment: I had radiation treatment only, no chemo.

How I felt after treatment: At the end of treatment I was hoping I would go back to living a normal life, hoping to have a positive outcome with positive results, and hoping to fully heal from having cervical cancer.

What was most difficult for me: Most difficult for me was fear and feeling alone. Also, I have one child but it is difficult that I now can't carry any more babies due to having cervical cancer.

My life after cancer: I do my best to live a healthy life and stay cancer-free.

Where I am today: I still go to the doctor and will do follow-ups for five years.

How I will try to help others: With education about cervical cancer and bring awareness.
